History
The great holy site, Neychen Thowa Drak is located in the upper valley of Tang in Bumthang. From Chutoe, a two-hour drive will take us to Thowa Drak.
During the B.C, the daughter of King of Uddiyana, Gelongma Pelmo, with her attendant, Samphelma, forged by karma came to Thowa Drak. They practised perfect fasting and as a result of their accomplishment, they could leave their body prints which we can still see today. In the 8th century, Guru Rimpoche too visited this crag and became one of the four greatly blessed crags in Bumthang. It was named Pema Yoesel Choeling Goenpa. The temple is built on crag resembling phurpa, the ritual dagger. Since it is the highest among all holy sites in four blocks of Bumthang, it got its name Thowa Drak.
