History
Situated in the heart of Gamling village, the Tang Anu Lhakhang was built on the same day with Tamzhing Tselung Lhakhang aka Konchosum Lhakhang and Chumey Geney Lhakhang as an agenda to tame the devils.
The story has it that one Tibetan nun travelled on pilgrimage with an ox carrying her belongings. She halted her night here. The next day, the ox would not stand up to move on their journey. When she asked why. The ox spoke like a human saying that it is destined to be here.
Sensing that the animal was an enlightened master in disguise, she apologized. No sooner did she apologize than the ox died here. Keeping the peg where the ox was anchored as the inner relic, the anim (nun) built a stupa. Later, some devotees constructed a Lhakhang enshrining the stupa inside.
Geney Lhakhang and Anu Lhakhang have the same statue of Nampar Nangzey (Mahavairicana). The Lhakhang was later renovated by Chojam Rinpochhe Pema Longyang and added statues of Lama, Yidam and Khandro collectively called Nyingthig Tsasum of Longchen tradition.
Anu Lhakhang is second to none in its sacredness.
