History
The Bhar Lhakhang, Buli was first established by the Terton Pema Lingpa who is said to have traveled to Buli from Bumthang in 1478. Upon reaching to Buli the Terton pitched a small tent in the place where the Lhakhang is located today and worked there in the small forge(mgartshang)which can be still seen.
Pema Lingpa performed a blacksmithing work in the small forge for some years. As per oral tradition while the Terton was performing the blacksmithing works Guru Rinpoche in the form of an old man came to meet Pema Lingpa. An old lady saw this and she conveyed the message to all villages saying a guest have come to meet the Terton. All villagers came with rice, zaw, cheese and butter to receive the new guest but the old man disappeared when they reached there. It is good omen that the Terton saw and had conversation with Guru Rinpoche.
After the Terton left the village the house is left behind which was worshipped by the villagers. Later, in the 19th century Choedrak Lam Sonam Gyeltshen built a small temple instead of the Lhakhang owing to its historic and cultural importance and was named Baar Lhakhang or Khar Lhakhang. In their local dialect Khar refers to house, which perhaps can prove that the Lhakhang has been house before it was turned to temple.
The blacksmithing works of the Terton includes the metal pan, bell and vajra. The pan is today with a villager name Phuntsho Dhendup and the Bell and vajra are with his sister Phuntsho Wangmo.
The Lhakhang was constructed around 19th century and in the year 2011 earthquake damaged the Lhakhang and was renovated under the supervision of Khentruel Garab Dorji with guidance from His Holiness Je Khenpo.
