History

Today, Choeje Pangkha is called Chhucheypang due to mispronunciation. Choeje Pangkha Lhakhang was built by an accomplished master, Lam Ngawang Samten sometime between 10-11 Rabjung. He was originally from Dra Karpo in Toebisa, Thinleygang, today, under Punakha Dzongkhag. We can still see his statue in the Lhakhang.

This Lama was enrolled in the monastic school and was contemporary to 1st and 2nd Je Khenpo. On page number 442 of Lho Druk Choejung, written by 69th Je Khenpo Geshey Geduen Rinchen and published by KMT, there is a chapter on Drubthob Ngawang Samten which says he was from Toeb Begarna, Dra Karpo. At Dra Karpo too he had established his seat and spent most of the time here.
He was also the La Zim for Trongsa Penlop Chogyal Minjur Tempa for quite a long duration.

Wherever he established his seat, it is said that the Lam discovered a conch (dungkar). A self-risen right coiling stone conch (དུང་དཀར་གཡས་འཁྱིལ) he retrieved from a tree in Tseza Samey Holo is still seen in Choejepang Lhakhang as a preserved relic. Therefore, there is no doubt that the founder of Tseza Choeje Pankhar Lhakhang is none other than Drubthob Ngawang Samten.
