History

Shingkhar Dechen Chhoeling Lhakhang of Shingkhar village under Ura gewog, Bumthang is one of the eight main seats of Longchen Rabjampa (1308-1363) with their names as Lings as follows:

Bumthang Tharpaling
Paro Samtenling
Kurtoe Kunzangling
Shingkhar Dechenling
Tang Ugyenchoeling
Menlok “Sha” Kunzangling
Sha Khotogkha Rinchenling
Gangtey Ngelung Drechagling

Longchenpa’s great-grandson, Tsezang Thaye Drakpa, came to Shingkhar and built a small temple enshrining the sacred throne and other relics of his ancestors. A small shrine was also built dedicated to the local deity. In Ura gewog itself, Longchenpa had three seats. One is Shingkhar Dechenling.
