History

Overlooking the village of Rin Thangkha of Chapcha lies the temple of Do Khaker Goenpa, a centre for religious activities of the local community. As prophesied by one Drubthob Jinba Gyeltshen, Choedzey Rechungpa Aka Thinley Jamtsho, the lineage holder and son of Thimphu Changangkha’s Lam Penjor founded this monastery. This is based on the biography of Drubchen Jinba Gyelsthen written by Namgyel Tenzin.

There is a big boulder with its tip pointing upright to the sky (kha ker ker). In its front, there is a blue pine tree. Lama sat under this tree and meditated. Since the place was so serene, it fulfilled the place of his liking in all aspects and took it as the destiny for his dharma seat and constructed the temple. It was named Do Khaker goenpa which would roughly translate as Temple at the standing boulder.

According to Changlo, Mangmi (Dy. Village Headman) of Chapcha gewog, many lineage holders and accomplished disciples emerged and propagated the Buddha dharma which led to earning another name Dorgoen Dargay Chhoeling Goenpa.
