History
The Lhakhang traces its history back to 1960s when Geyshey Pema Thinley visited to Tali, Buli, Goling villages. The Geyshey during his early visit is said to have married a woman from Kheng Goling Zhemgang who later gave birth to a baby girl. The Geyshey then went back to Bumthang to continue his studies and returned to Tali in 1962. The foundations of the lhankhang was laid in 1962, after the visit of Geyshey to Tali he started a small learning institution for the Gomchens to practice Buddhism. The people of Tali village are said to have been practicing bon religion before the visit of Geyshey. The group of Gomchens also renovated the temple at Tali under the supervision of the Geyshey. The renovation works are completed in the year 1968. The Geyshey then invited his root teacher Poenlop Khen Ronpochoe to Tali to preside over the the consecretion ceremony of the Lhakhang.
The place where the present Lhakhang was built was seen as manifestion of Zangdopelri and Geyshey thought of renovating the lhakhang as Zangdopelri. However, the dream of the Geyshey was left inaccomplished since the entered into parinirvana shortly. After the Geyshey passed away a Lama named Therchung was sent to look after the lhakhang and to spread buddhism by Poenlopkhen Rinpochoe. The lam is well learned person of thirteen fundamental scriptures and traditional medcine alongside the Lama has also practiced both Dzongchen and chakchen.
The Lama with support from the people of Tali and Goling renovated the lhakhang and was completed in 1974. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpochoe presided over the consecretion ceremony. Due to lack of skilled labour and carpenters during the renovation works the lhakhang needed renovation shortly. The renovation work was started in 1990 but could continue further due to lack of labour and financials support.
After His Holliness resigned from the post of Drapoi Lopen in 1990 renovation works of Lhakhang was started with under command of His Majesty 4th Druk Gyalpo and His Holliness Je Khenpo. The Lhakhang was renovated as three storyard Zangdopelri as intended by Geyshey Pema Thinley. Later in the year 2009 the Zangdopelri was upgraded into Sheydra to be headed by one Khenpo.Khenpo Ugyen Lhuendup from Trongsa was appointed as the first khenpo of the Sheydra. With support from the Dzongkhag administration the Sheydra was provided many modern amenities and seats to around 30 monks.
Khenpo Karma Younten from Kurtoe is the new head of the shedra.]
