History

Wengkhar Ngatshang was initially constructed in 1646 by Lam Namsey, Umzee Damchen Rabgye and Kudung Pekar Chophel. The construction of Ngatshang was initiated to start the establishment of religious monk body.
In 1791, Zhabdrung Jigme Drakpa was born in Wengkhar Nagtshang to father Tashi Sonam and mother Kuenzang Dechen, the ancestor lineage of Umzee Damchoe Rinchen.
The Nagtshang was offered to Gyalyum Ashi Phuntsho Choden and later on Gyalyum Ashi Phuntsho Choden offered the same to His Holiness the Dudjom Rinpoche. Subsequently the Nagtshang was given to Tandin Wangchuck by His Holiness the Dudjom Rinpoche. In 2000, the Nagtshang was offered to Monggar Rabdey started managing the Lhakhang.
