History
Built by Drubchen Chagdor, a disciple of Gangtey Trulku Tenzin Lekpai Dendup as the center for Peling Tradition, the two storied Ngedupchu Goenpa or the second Gadhen Chhoekhorling has 12 sided Utse like Semtokha Dzong. Inside, there is an assembly hall with Buddha Maitreya on the shrine, rooms to store masks, a central chapel east and west and the sanctum. It is in Punakha Dzongkhag, Chubu Gewog and is owned by the government.
Ngawang Pekar, younger brother of Jamgoen Ngawang Gyeltshen took over and converted it into Drukpa Kagyud center.
In the book, Seed of Faith, (Depai Saboen), it is mentioned that the main relic is that of Buddha Maitreya.
The temple is connected by a farm road and is 17 km away costing 1 hours drive from Samdhingkha village. In the 11th Five Year Plan (2013-2018), the Dzongkhag Administration and Lama Sangay coordinated renovation to its new glory with improved physical ambience with a variety of trees and flowers. A school was also established and today it has Principal, teachers and 30 monks.
Above it, about half an hour‘s walk uphill, we see a temple built on the meditation cave of the 17th-century saint, Tsang Khenchen Jamyang Palden Jamtsho of Tibet who meditated here on the mandala of Vajrakilaya. Revering the founder, this cave is called Khenchen Drag. Devotees consider this site as holy of getting blessed by Vajrakilaya.
