History

The popular community Lhakhang known as Thangkha Lhakhang in Nisho gewog, Wangduephodrang was founded by Kuenkhen Longchen Rabjam in the 14th century corresponding to 16th Rabjung. It was initially called Sha Kuenzangling Lhakhang. It is one of the main seats of Longchen Rabjam in Western Bhutan. It is situated between Sha Nishokha and Chheybaykha and was used by the people of Drechagling and Khothang Rinchenling as their winter residential place. Patrons and devotees from these villages invited Longchen Rabjam to this place. While he was here, one small boy got possessed by some evil spirits and Lam was requested for the solution. Lam blessed him with kago and the boy instantly got relieved. In return for this gratitude, the land was offered to Longchenpa on which Longchenpa constructed a temple and named it Kuenzangling.
