History

Talangkha Tashi Drukgyal Goenpa
The monastery is located on a hill-top on the upper part of Simtokha valley clearly visible from Thimphu town. Written accounts attribute Lam Shakya Gyaltshen as its founder. This account is however denied by the locals and attributes its founder as Lam Ngawang Chogyal.

Later, the monastery was rebuilt and extended by Trulku Sherab gyaltshen as a treasure paper for the sacred scriptures was discovered from a site behind the monastery. In front of the monastery, a stone slab on which the paper was beaten is preserved on an elevated position. It is believed that by circumambulating the monastery carrying the sacred stone slab, one can be purified from karmic obscurations.
