History

The lhakhang was founded by Sangdag, the youngest son of Terton Pema Lingpa. It has a repository of a wide range of treasures and other sacred objects known to have been revealed by Terton Pema Lingpa. It is located at about 20 minutes’ walk or two kilometers drive from Mongar town. The teachings and religious practices are maintained strictly according to the Peling traditions. Yakgang monastery hosts the Trelda Tshechu for three days commemorating the birth anniversary of Guru Rinpoche on the 10th day of 5th Bhutanese month. In the past, the Yakgang tshechu was the only tshechu performed annually to mark the annual festival at Monggar.
