History

Sa Nga Choeling Lhakhang is located beside the farm road that leads to the Gewog office and the Orong high school. It is approximately 10 kilometers from the national highway. The lhakhang overlooks the entire Orong village and serves as the community lhakhang.

According to Kudrung(discipline master) Kunzang, it’s believed that two centuries ago three Tibetan brothers, all reincarnates, trekked down to eastern Bhutan. While the eldest opted to settle in Pemagatshel, the middle one chose Trashiyangtse and the youngest of the three, Lam Sangay went to Orong and settled at the site of the present lhakhang, Lam Sangay built the lhakhang and was named after him. His successors took charge of the lhakhang once he died. This is the only lhakhang in Orong where annual tshechus is being performed.
