History

On foot towards the northwest direction from Gasa Dzong, one arrives at the Zabsel Goenpa, a retreat site of Jamyang Loday Singye, one of the nine Singye disciples of Choeje Drowai Goenpo Tsangpa Jarey (1161-1211). At one point in time, Jamyang Kuenga Singye was the last and ultimate lineage holder of the Drukpa sect. Fearing the end of lineage holder, his disciples requested him to accept a consort and one Tashi Pelden, a daughter of his disciple, Lam of Goen Rin Ding, Pelden Singye was offered. Son Jamyang Loday Singye was born.

However, the oral source says that the mother of Jamyang Loday Singye was a nun. One day she got one fruit (persimmon) while fetching water. She became pregnant after eating it without any biological father. She got de-rolled from the nunnery. She stayed in a nearby cave where his son Jamyang Loday Singye was born. At a young age, he was sent to Tibet Ralung monastery. He returned and established as many as 108 meditation centres though not all could be sustained later.

Till 2015, the temple was taken care of by the community of Goen Khatoe. Now it is being taken care of by the central monastic body. The temple is also renovated and expanded. There are also some meditation rooms constructed.

In Lho Druk Choejung, it is mentioned that Jamyang Kuenga Singye repeatedly pleaded to marry to continue his lineage. Descendant of Phajo Drukgom Zhigpo, one Lama of Goen by the name Pelden Singye had a daughter who was offered as the consort and Jamyang Loday Singye was born. The child was enthroned in Tibet Ralung as the lineage holder. He later returned and founded Zabsel Kunga Rawa and established the monastic community for meditation. Thus, there is no doubt that Jamyang Loday Singye was the son of Jamyang Kuenga Singye.
